Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Morning Intake
All students enter through and exit Door 5 (Midland). This door opens at 8:50 am.
Dismissal
Your child's safety is our top priority at Thurgood Marshall. To ensure the continued safety of our community, building security is stationed at various locations throughout the day. During dismissal, these agents are stationed at Door 1 (Linwood) and Door 5 (Midland) to monitor students as they exit campus.
Dismissal Doors
Teachers escort their classes outside using the respective exit door assigned to their grade. These doors have been predetermined by administration.
Please note, to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of dismissal, students cannot be dismissed to doors not assigned to their grade.
Parents, please use the list provided below to locate your child's dismissal door and prepare accordingly.

Cell Phone Policy
At Marshall, we understand parent's efforts to keep children safe. We recognize the dangers our students face and how important cellular communication is for them. However, we also know how distracting cell phones can be in regard to academics, specifically classroom attentiveness. As a result, our team has implemented the following guidelines regarding cell phone usage during school hours. We appreciate your efforts to assist us in keeping students safe, focused, and alert!
- Cell phone usage is closely monitored during school hours, and strictly prohibited during class time.
- Alternatively, students may use the school phone in the classroom in the event of an emergency.
- Any phone found turned on during class time will be confiscated.
- As our policy expressly forbids the use of cellphones during school hours, Thurgood Marshall is not responsible, liable, or accountable for any lost, damaged, or stolen devices.
- Any student found using cellular devices to record fights/obscenities/general mayhem and/or to cyber-stalk, cyberbully, or harass any other student will be suspended, and their device confiscated for up to 10 days.
If your child's cellular device has been confiscated, you may retrieve it from the Dean's Office.

Building Safety Protocols
Parents, in light of our new safety protocols, you are now prohibited from roaming the building without prior authorization from the main office.
- Please refrain from attempting to locate and/or dismiss your child without informing the main office as you are now required to have visitor passes for the time you are in the building.
- These passes can only be obtained from the main office.
Remember:
- Students must be physically signed out in the book provided in the main office before being dismissed. We do not dismiss students by phone.
- We cannot dismiss students in advance. Each dismissal must correspond to the date/time that the request is made. For example, you cannot call at 12:30 on Tuesday requesting your child be dismissed at 3:10.
- Except in cases of illness, students are not allowed to wait for pickup outside of their scheduled classes.
- Any person attempting to pick up a student must have a valid ID on file and have documented pickup privileges reflected in the profile of the student in question.
Parents, we appreciate your efforts to help us keep Thurgood Marshall safe!
Early Pickup Procedures
Early Release and Pickup
We understand that situations arise which cannot be helped. During such times, you may need to pick your children up from school early. Please make note of our 2023 Early Dismissal regulations to ensure your dismissals are as hassle-free as possible.
Early Pickup
The new early pickup cut-off time is 3:30 pm. In order to be eligible for early pickup, you must have signed your child out in the main office before 3:30 pm. The doors will automatically lock at this time and will not open again until the regularly scheduled dismissal at 4:10 pm.
There are no exceptions.
New Security Protocols
Due to increased school-related instances of violence and kidnapping, we have doubled our efforts to increase students' safety and security. As a result, our building safety guidelines have changed. Please make note of these changes and prepare accordingly.
Your child's profile must now contain the contact information of any individual attempting to pick them up. We can no longer release students into the custody of any person who does not have a valid profile on the account of the child they want to pick up, regardless of their relationship with that student.
If your child’s profile needs to be updated to reflect any changes to pickup privileges, please contact the main office. Remember, only legal guardians can make changes to student contacts, and new contacts must present a valid ID in order to be added to any student's profile.
Parent Volunteer
In an effort to increase security and make the application more accessible for all parents/guardians, DPS has digitized the new Parent Volunteer application. If you're interested in being a more prominent part of your child's life with us, please use the link below to begin the application process.
Parents, please take note of the following:
- Potential volunteers must wait for district approval before they will be permitted to participate in any volunteer activities.
- These include: daily activities, building events, and field trips.
- Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email. Please keep this email for your records. Once your application is approved, please submit the approval to the Marshall Main Office.
