Staying Safe During Mid-Winter Break

Mid-Winter Break is a wonderful time for our students and families to rest, recharge, and enjoy time together. As you enjoy the break, the DPSCD Department of Public Safety encourages everyone to keep safety top of mind at home, online, and throughout the community.

If you are traveling or spending time away from home, remember to lock all doors and windows, bring packages inside promptly, and ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. When attending community events or visiting busy locations, let someone know your plans, stay alert, and keep vehicles locked with valuables out of sight.

Online safety remains just as important during the break. Avoid sharing travel plans publicly on social media, protect personal information, and continue monitoring students’ screen time and online activity. Students should use the buddy system when out with friends, be aware of safe adults and safe places, and speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

Breaks can also bring changes in routine. Families are encouraged to check in with one another, maintain healthy habits, and reach out to school support staff if additional assistance is needed once school resumes.

Safety doesn’t take a break — together, we keep the DPSCD community strong and secure.
